Trending: A former teacher at a La Puente elementary school suspected of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material was arrested again in Las Vegas this month after he was charged in a federal indictment.Steven Pilar, 47, of Las Vegas, was charged with two counts of receiving child pornography and two counts of possessing child pornography, according to the U.S.Gay porno Attorney’s Office.Pilar had been employed as a teacher at Baldwin Academy — one of the schools in the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District — since 2001.From February 2020 to April 2020, Pilar is suspected of receiving and downloading over 400 videos and images of child sexual abuse material. Authorities alleged Pilar used BitTorrent, a file-sharing application, to send and receive the images, though it was not clear who he was communicating with.He was placed on administrative leave following his arrest in 2020 and is no longer employed by the district, prosecutors said in a news release.The photos did not include students from the school or district, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.Pilar was originally arrested on state charges, which were later dropped so a federal case could be pursued with tougher penalties, said Ciaran McEvoy, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.He was arrested in August while in Las Vegas.
